Mission Ministries Team
June 6, 2004

The Mission Committee met on Sunday, June 6, 2004 after the worship service.  Attending were Mary Alice D’Ambrosio, Alice Zwart, Marty Ferwerda and Laura Henrikson.

The meeting began with prayer given by Marty.

Minutes of the last meeting were read by Laura and accepted.

Marty has posted all new items on the bulletin board.  He also cancelled the supper we had planned for this month due to several conflicts.  We discussed several of the correspondence items that have been sent to the committee.

We voted to donate money to several missions:  Food Pantry - $250.00, Mississippi Christian Family Services - $150.00, Straight Ahead Ministries - $200.00 and payment for UCC Basic Support - $1550.00.  The committee will also be looking into other missions to support in the future.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2004 after the worship service, at which time we will be planning some new projects for the fall and coming year.  Ending prayer was given by Laura.

Respectfully submitted,
Laura A Henrikson, Secretary

July Worship Services

During July worship services, our sermon themes will address some of the issues of our day that divide the Body of Christ as we live out our discipleship.  Examining the validity of both sides of these issues, we will explore the biblical witness, our own traditions and experiences, and seek to find reasonable ways in which we can be a “ united church” while holding a variety of viewpoints.  Following each service, there will be a time for discussion of these vital yet divisive issues.

Computer Corner

 Updates in June included the following;

  • June Deaconer
  • Announcements
    • Men's Club Roast Beef Suppers
  • May 2nd Baptism and Communion
  • April 8th Maundy Thursday
  • Updates to the Week in Review (on a weekly basis).
What would happen if your computer crashed?  Would you lose important information that would cause serious consequences if you were not able to recover?  Do you back up your computer?

An area of computer maintenance that folks seldom consider is computer back-ups.  On a frequent basis, we continually add and update information in our computers without a thought to what would happen if it all of a sudden goes away with out the ability to get it back.  How do I know? – been there, done that.

Files to consider are documents and spreadsheets that you have created.  Financial records you maintain on the computer.  Bookmarks, e-mail and address books.  Think about the way you use your computer and there you will find the kind of information you store in your computer.  If you are organized enough, maybe you use “My Documents” and “My Downloads” to keep your data.  How about your registry?

There are many ways to back up your data.  For example, I have identified several areas on my PC where important files are kept.  On a weekly basis (well at least I try), I burn a copy of the information to CD’s which could be used to restore the files from that date back should my PC crash.  Start learning about back-ups by doing a search on your PC help files.  Also, the internet is a good source.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!

Roast Beef Suppers

Roast Beef Supper Season is here again.  Our first supper will be this Saturday (June 26th).  It takes lots of help to make it successful.  Please volunteer to help on any or all of our suppers -- June 26th,  July 31st , or August  28th.   We need vegetables peelers on Friday morning, men to set up the tables and chairs, set the tables, help in the kitchen, bake biscuits, serve as waiters and coffee pourers, wash pots and pans and help clean up afterwards.  Many hands make less work for all.  Workers are requested to wear their green shirts.  If you can't volunteer then come as a dinner guest and invite friends to join you.

This is a great value at only $9.

For reservations call the "Roast Beef Lady" at 899-6823.

There will be music on the common (Band Concert) on July 31st  for enjoyment after our supper.
