Council Meeting
Thursday, July 15,
2004
Present: Janet Kohlmorgen,
Janet Goodrich, Dave Marr, Tony and
Mary Alice D’Ambrosio, Kathy Fitzwater, Flossie Hastings,
Jane Hannon,
Jim Melhorn, Phyllis Ames, Trudie Kalinen
Pastor Jim opened the meeting with prayer.
Treasurer’s and
Collector’s Reports: Jane Hannon noted with the
year 50% passed, we have received 50% of our anticipated annual income
and expended 47.81% of it.
Pastor’s Report: Pastor Jim
will be on vacation beginning noon
August 1. Bill Beardsley will cover pastoral duties August
2-8; Steve
Chace will provide coverage following that date. The August 1
service
will be held jointly with Jaffery at 11 AM at the Cathedral.
Following
the service we are invited to a brunch at the Woodbound Inn hosted by
the
Jaffery Church.
Deacons’ Report:
Kathy Fitzwater reported the Deacons have sent
16 letters of inquiry concerning active / inactive status.
Pastor
Jim is getting a bid from a locksmith to make areas of the church more
secure. The Deacons are awaiting a quote on upgrading our
audio system.
Trustees’ Report:
Dave Marr presented updates on the stove, lift,
and auditor projects.
-
An appliance repairman evaluated the stove. It appears
refurbishing
it is a viable option rather than repair or replacement.
-
The lift project continues to progress. Selectmen met with
trustees
to review the installation process.
-
Mark Warner is reviewing potential candidates to conduct our outside
audit.
-
The committee continues the ’65 Agreement review process.
Christian Education Report: Phyllis Ames
reported there is adequate
summer childcare coverage, with a few dates to be covered.
Music Committee Report: Tony
D’Ambrosio updated the council on
the most recent organ repair. The committee will be preparing
a report
for the trustees informing them funds for this and future organ repairs
have been depleted and alternative sources need to be identified.
Publicity: Trudie Kalinen has
been organizing records of our
‘current history’ into albums, which she shared
with the council.
LVA/EC: Flossie Hastings
extended an invitation to all women
in the church to attend the LVA/EC annual summer picnic to be held at
Barbara
Wells on August 16th.
Men’s Club:
The group is seeking additional cooking equipment,
such as the large pots, used in preparing the many suppers.
Old Business: Janet Kohlmorgen
asked for background information
concerning the fair’s flea market tables.
New Business: The council
authorized Jane Hannon to cancel our
bulk mailing permit and to apply for the available refund.
The meeting adjourned following prayer offered by
Jane Hannon.
Tony D’Ambrosio will offer the closing prayer at the Aug.
meeting.
Repectfully submitted,
Janet Goodrich, Clerk

You may or may not be aware that there have been several critical
security
breaches to the Microsoft internet browser. If you have not
done
so recently, it would be highly advisable to check the Microsoft update
page to see if there are any critical updates waiting for
you. If
there are, you should download them and install them.
I’ve talked
about the importance of keeping current before so this
shouldn’t be news.
These new problems, under the right conditions, allow a malicious
person
to infiltrate your machine and cause problems or even worse, obtain
some
of your user information. Go to the following web site to
check your
PC
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
It’s not my intent to complicate things,
but there are other internet
browsers out there besides the Microsoft internet browser.
Some of
the alternatives are Netscape, Opera and Mozilla. Because
more than
90% of all browser users use MS IE (because it is bundled with Windows
– this is part of all that court action), MS IE becomes the
favorite target
of all kinds of security breaches. I for one do not use MS IE
unless
I absolutely have to. I use Mozilla. Unfortunately,
even with
standards developed for web design, many web developers only design
their
site for MS IE and occasionally a page won’t render quite
right in other
browsers (then I resort to IE). I design all my sites to work
with
all browsers. If you are interested in exploring the
alternatives,
I’d be happy to discuss.
