March Worship Services
March 1 –
Ash
Wednesday - 7:00pm - We
begin the season of Lent
with a brief service which will begin with doughnuts and hot chocolate
and will include time for reflection and meditation, some singing, and
ending with the imposition of ashes for those who wish to receive
them.
Lent is often a time when people feel they need to be sad and somber,
or
when we give something up. This year, perhaps we might
rethink Lent.
Maybe it could be for us a time of ‘taking something
on’ rather than ‘giving
something up’. This Lent, Pastor Jim will preach a
series of Lenten
sermons, with the theme “A Christian
Manifesto” highlighting some
of the elements we might ‘take on’ as we seek a
deepening of our faith
and a strengthening of our commitment to love and serve God as we
follow
Jesus from temptation to passion to victory.

Acolyte Extraordinaire
Sunday February 12th
was very snowy and only a dozen brave
souls ventured out for the service. However, little Brian had
an
opportunity to be the Acolyte for the first time (with a
little help
from daddy) – what a great job he did!!!

New Members
8 new members joined our church on February 19th
– Lisa Gallante,
Ed and Marti Gagnon, Amy Lanza, Margaretta Mellen, Marcie Miller,
Margaret
Morabito and Jean Raymond. Below is a brief bio on a few of
the new
members. Please look next month for the remaining bios and
pictures.
Margaretta Mellen was born in
Framingham MA and lived most of
her adult life on Cape Cod in Orleans MA where she worked in
banking.
She and her faithful greyhound Heather have moved to Rindge to be
closer
to her daughter. Margaretta is looking forward to spring so
she can
start working in her flower gardens. She is transferring her
membership
from the Orleans Congregation Church, UCC.
Margaret Morabito grew up in
Rindge and lived in Rochester NY
for many years. Two years ago, she and her husband returned
to Rindge
and have purchased the West Rindge Basket Shop. Presently,
they are
open by appointment or you can visit them on-line at www.westrindgebaskets.com.
Margaret enjoys water sports, cross-country skiing, and playing the
guitar.
She is an English teacher and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and
has developed their website. She and her husband have a son
and a
daughter. Margaret is the daughter of church member Gladys
Gorts.
Jean Raymond was born and
raised in Rindge NH and is a former
member of our church. For the past 12 years she has lived in
Jaffrey
and has worked at Integra (formerly Data Graphics) in Jaffrey for over
20 years. She enjoys entertaining her three nephews; she is
an avid
knitter and loves to play her favorite hymns on the piano.
One of
her favorite vacation spots is Lake Champlain and hopes to vacation
there
soon. Jean is transferring her membership from United Church
of Jaffrey,
UCC, back to the First Congregational Church & Society of
Rindge.
Welcome back!
Marcy Miller was born in Holden
MA, and has moved from Warwick
RI to Rindge NH to be closer to family. Before her retirement
2 years
ago, she was employed at CIGNA Corporation, in the Corporate Offices as
a Project Manager for the Systems Division. She loves to sew,
is
an avid quilt maker and describes herself as a
“want-to-be” gardener.
Marcy is transferring from the First Congregational Church of Warwick
where
she sang in the choir and served as Treasurer. She looks
forward
to becoming active member of our church family.
Next month we will have more information about New
Members Lisa Galante,
Ed and Marti Gagnon, and Amy Lanza.
Men's Club Dinner
On Saturday February 11, the Rindge Men's Club
hosted a social hour
and Valentine's Dinner at the Woodbound Inn. Twenty seven ladies and
gents
enjoyed a social hour with delectable munchies and a sumptuous buffet
of
prime rib, chicken, and pasta, topped off by a dessert smorgasbord,
including
chocolate covered strawberries etc. A small carnation bouquet was given
to each of the ladies and a good time was had by all.
New Copier
We have purchased a new copier. The repair costs
on our old machine
were not realistic We obtained several bids and were able to trade in
our
old machine. If you need to use this new machine for church work,
please
ask for help before using. Thanks.
If anyone would like to contribute toward the cost
of the new equipment,
please see one of the trustees.
New Altar Railings
Come and see the new railings leading up the steps
to the altar. These
railings were designed and built to blend into our church setting --
they
will be a big help to many of our choir members.
