Notice

The Church Council has decided to declutter our church building. We have put some target dates in place.

November 1, 2006 - Committees have the opportunity to look at and straighten their areas, and identified their storage needs.

November 4, 2006 – 8:00am Church Council and anyone who would like to join the cleaning detail.

We will put any things we think we don’t need in an area so our church family can be sure we haven’t removed something of importance to a committee for two weeks.

November 18, 2006 - Dump Run - early morning.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is pleased to announce that Lisa Galante and Amy Lanza have joined the Christian Education Committee.

Thank you both.

Mens Club Breakfast

The Mens Club will hold a breakfast at 8:00am. on Sunday October 22nd. All men are urged to attend. See Dick Docekal for details.

Rindge Mens Club
Fishing Trip
On Friday September 8th, the Mens Club chartered the “Sea Star” and hosted a deep sea fishing trip 25 miles off Hampton Beach. Mens Club members, senior coffee hour folks and friends and neighbors made for a lively group of twenty three. The weather was magnificient and most folks caught fish. The largest fish caught was a monstrous 38 pound cod. Bragging rights amongst our church group goes to Tony D’Ambrosio who caught a 15 pound cod and Chuck Mathis who caught a large wolf fish. Maybe next year everybody will have better luck.

The Church Media Center is a treasure…
Now we’re looking for your time and talent!
Can you help us keep the doors open?

The Church Media Center needs volunteers to keep the center open on a regular basis.   The center, located at New Hampshire UCC conference headquarters at 140 Sheep Davis Road in Pembroke, is a shared ministry of the NH Conference of the UCC and the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire.  While continuing to provide space for this ministry, the NH UCC Conference is unable to provide funding for 2007.  Consequently the Center will no longer be able to employ a full time librarian.  Until we are able to hire a part-time librarian, we hope to keep the center open with volunteers, who would be on hand to check-out materials to those who come into the center or to mail materials to those who request them by phone or Email.  If you would like to help with this ministry, please call the NH Conference of the UCC at 1-(888) 642-8229, or the NH Episcopal Diocese at 1-800-995-1914.  For more information about the Media Center visit our website at http://www.nhcmc.org/.

To My Church Family

I want to thank everyone for their concerns, cards, phone calls, meals, errands, rides and of course many prayers.
The support you have given to me during my recent illness, surgery and recovery has been overwhelming. I have been truly blessed to have such a caring family.

In Christ’s Love,
Laura Henrikson

Church Council
September 21, 2006

Present: Jim Melhorn, Burt and Janet Goodrich, Sue Campbell, Mary Alice D’Ambrosio, Janet Kohlmorgen, Cynthia Childs

Following the opening prayer by Pastor Jim, the minutes of the August meeting were approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report - Cynthia distributed a financial update. We continue to have a deficit budget for the year. We need to explore providing a computerized system for sending out quarterly pledge statements.

Deacon’s Report: See written report. There are concerns about the de-cluttering process. Everyone recognizes how hard it is to part with ‘stuff’ but committees, boards, etc. are asked to give serious thought to the items to be saved. Space is very limited and clutter uninviting. All groups are asked to label their items by November 1. November 4 will be a de-cluttering work day beginning at 8:00am. Questionable items will be collected in one place for two weeks. Items not claimed and stored will be removed from the building on November 18.

Trustees Report: See written report. 1] October is stewardship month. Letters and pledge cards will go out Oct. 1 and returned by October 27. Stewardship Sunday is October 29. 2] The council voted unanimously to approve the investment policy revised as of 9/12/06.

Membership and Evangelism: See written report.

Missions Ministries: See written report. The committee will sell coffee once a month at coffee hour and at the Snowflake Fair.

Men’s Club: The group will have a business meeting Sunday at 8:30.

New Business:

  1. The council approved the appointments of Lisa Gallante and Amy Lanza to the Christian Education Committee. Christian Ed will meet the third Sunday in October rather than on Columbus Day weekend.

  2. Council reviewed the ideas generated at the last retreat and many ideas were explored. Two more immediate activities that may be held will be a movie discussion group that Jim offered to facilitate and a book discussion group that Burt is willing to coordinate. Other ideas will be forthcoming over the course of the year.

Pastor Jim offered closing prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Janet Goodrich, Clerk

Diaconate

Second letters were to be sent to the members who were identified and received the first letter regarding their membership-will check with Barbara Wells when she returns from her trip.

Sunday November 5th, there will be a Membership/Evangelism Committee program. U.C.C. Church of Jaffrey is evaluating their future. Visionary Committee has been created for their church.

Old Business

  • The plague for Mary William’s donation of the alter rug has been ordered.

  • The emergency forms are organized and in Jim’s office - thank you, Barbara

A. G. Edwards: Win Brown came to the meeting with two proposals for changing part of our portfolio. After some discussion a motion was made and approved to sell the balance of the GM bonds and to purchase 1000 shares of Eaton Vance closed-end fund. Another motion was made to transfer $6,000 from our Edward’s account into our general fund.

Secretary and Treasurer’s Reports: Secretary’s report was accepted as presented; Treasurer’s report was accepted with correction so noted on dividends.

Committee Reports:

  • Stewardship: We are requesting from all Committees that their budget needs to be in our hands by November 1st. Our pledge letter and cards will be in the mail by October 1st with the request that the pledges either be mailed back or returned to Church by October 22nd on Stewardship Sunday.

  • Grounds and Building: Two skunks have been caught and any holes in the perimeter of the Church have been filled in. The Ward Fund has paid for the installation of the new circuit breaker unit. The Ward Fund will also cover the cost of installing new lights on the building and insulating the foundation.

Old Business:

  1. Motion was made to accept the Investment Policy as written and will be presented to the Council for final approval.

  2. Boy Scouts: Dave Marr is still working with the scouts to solve storage problems.

  3. Insurance: We added the organ and stained glass windows to our present policy. New rates for the coming year will be out Oct. 1st. Jane was thanked for all of her hard work sorting out our insurance coverage.

New Business:

  1. Parsonage: There are several problems with regard to the parsonage basement. It is very damp and the windows have become warped and rusted. They may need to be replaced. The sump pump also does not work, and it was agreed that a humidifier might be helpful. Jim agreed to make some calls for the necessary repairs.

Jane closed with a prayer. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm. Next meeting will be Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Bogar, Secretary

Mission Ministries Team
September 10, 2006

The Missions Ministries Team met on Sunday, September 10 after Church.  Una Bigelow, Mary Alice D’Ambrosio, Laura Henrikson and Marie Marr were present.

Marie opened the meeting with prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and then Laura went over the correspondence received since our last meeting.

Marie will check to see if the check for our food sales at the Woman’s Club Craft Fair has been sent to the Food Pantry.

Una will check to see if thank you notes have been written, and if not will send them out.

We decided to give the last of our ice cream to the Sunday School.

Next week, September 17, we will begin selling bags of coffee, tea, etc during coffee hour.  We plan to sell it once a month from now on.  An announcement will be made during church.  We will also sell bags of coffee at the Snowflake Fair.  In addition, at the Fair on October 9 and at the Snowflake Fair we will raffle off one basket at each event containing 2 bags of coffee, 2 Christmas coffee mugs and more.  The money raised will go to the church.

Marie suggested that we have a Church Supper and ask Shelter from the Storm to send a representative to tell us about their organization. We decided that sometime in January would be a good time.  We’ll pick a date later.

Our budget for next year is due on November 1.  Laura will look for a copy of this year’s budget and then we can go from there, possibly by e-mail.

Our next meeting will be on October 22 after Church.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Alice D’Ambrosio,

Kids in Church

Children’s Letters to God ...

Dear God,
Who draws the lines around the countries?

Dear God,
Thank you for my baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.

Dear God,
I think the stapler is one of your greatest inventions.

Dear God,
I think about you sometimes, even when I'm not praying.

Dear God,
I bet it is very hard for you to love all the people in the world. There are only four people in our family and I can never do it.

Dear God,
My brother told me about being born, but it doesn't sound right. They are just kidding, aren't they?

Dear God,
We read Thomas Edison made light.  But in Sunday School, we learned that you did it.  So I bet he stole your idea.

Dear God,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday.  That was cool!

Dear God,
Maybe Cain and Abel would not kill each other so much if they had their own rooms.  It works with my brother.
