Snapshots of our Artists
To learn more about our artists, just click on any of the names above that have links (they're the ones with colored lettering) April 11
– Adam Payne – It's a bird. No, it's a plane. No, it's Adam Payne's afro!!! Along with the great look, you'll get great music and even a great take on the world. Adam will wow you with his fusion of Funk, R&B, Folk, and Acoustic. Come prepared to smile, maybe even to dance; that's what Adam's all about. – Amerimfcana – OK, so the name's a little weird (the "mf" stands, they say, for Male/Female; let's hope so). What you'll love is their "arresting blend of blues, folk, jazz & original material, all performed in an eclectic, humorous, and sophisticated manner" (quote taken from another website, not their own). May 9 – Annalivia – One of the latest alt-traditional bands to emerge from the potent Boston fiddle music scene. This acoustic quartet features the beautiful voice of Liz Simmons, a New Hampshire native and former protegè of famed Irish singer Karan Casey. Liz has performed with the group North Cregg from Co. Cork, The John Whelan Band, and The Sevens. Liz is joined by fiddle ace Brendan Carey Block (formerly of the Glengarry Bhoys), guitarist/vocalist Flynn Cohen (who has toured and recorded with John Whelan, Adrienne Young, Aoife Clancy, Halali, The Sevens and others), and bass player/banjo picker Stuart Kenney (The Sevens, Wild Asparagus). Together, their music combines Anglo-Celtic ballad singing and fiddle music traditions with their North American counterparts—Appalachia and Cape Breton–all with a groove-centric contemporary flair. June 13 – Guitar Heroes Dan LaVoie and Ken Bonnfield – Dan LaVoie – As one of the few musicians in the world actively composing and performing on the rare harp guitar, Dan LaVoie brings a unique sound and texture to fans of acoustic music. Dan's soaring execution will drop the jaws of unsuspecting acoustic music fans. Reminiscent of the work of Michael Hedges and Richie Havens, Dan's music is sophisticated and compelling, and his live performances are a special experience in sight and sound .
– Ken Bonfield – Ken's artistry of the Guitar is a feast not only for guitar lovers, but for anyone with a passion for acoustic music. If you enjoy folk, blues, jazz, or Celtic music with a contemporary twist, then you're in for a real treat! Critics say calling Ken a guitarist is a bit like calling Michelangelo a painter. He's one of the most talented and dynamic performers around, and his storytelling alone is worth the price of admission. Expect to be dazzled by his fretwork, charmed by his wit, and moved by his music. Known for his left-of-center wit, Ken describes his performances as "Leo Kottke meets Ed Gerhard on the way to a Bill Cosby concert." |
