Frequently Asked Questions About Our Church
Or, if they aren't Frequently Asked Questions, perhaps they should be:
1. What's the dress code like here?
Depends on what you like, it would seem. We have a few folk who
regularly show up in suit and tie. Most, however are much more
casual; jeans, slacks. Everybody looks nice.
Best description: it's your choice,
2. Do you have any children?
Not as many as we'd like, but yes, we've a few babies, a few
youngsters, some teenagers. Most of our older kids are away in
college at this point; but these things are part of the ebb and flow
and not to be relied upon. Rest assured in one thing: we love the
young folk and we'll welcome any you bring with you.
3. What brand of worship will I find in your church?
We stick with the love for all of us that God has shown through his
many acts, the most important of which is the life and death and
resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. So, we're Christians, for
sure, but we're certainly not just one of the many varieties you've
probably heard of. Rather, we've got a very nice mix; some
fundamentalists, some very
loose believers, some ... like you, probably. That's what makes
us a good Congregationalist Church. We are each of us
responsible to God (and to no one else) for our own relationship to
God. So, you can bring to us your own
particular brand of Christian belief without fear of being taken to
task. Indeed, we'll welcome you.
4. Are babies and little children welcome in your Worship Service?
You bet they are. Most often, however, early in the Service the youngsters enjoy a
brief Children's Message from the Pastor and then go to the Sunday
School activities that are prepared for them. If you want your
baby in the service, that's fine. If you want your children
there, that's fine too ... although they'll probably get a more out of
the Sunday School lessons.
5. What kind of music will I hear?
Of course, music is a very important part of Worship Service.
We've got a wonderful, talented music director in Lorri Bond.
Lorri's also the mother of a lovely little girl, and wants us to
have a Children's Choir sometime soon. We play music on the piano
and also on the organ. We sing old favorites, and new favorites,
too. The bell choir, an old-time traditional kind of church
music, is currently awaiting resurrecting, but it will be back.
Sometimes we have a bluegrass group in for our Sunday service.
So, you see, it's all kinds, including praisesong, old rounds,
alleluliahs, and so on. The adult choir's fun, too.
6. What kind of people are welcome in your church?
All the kinds God made. We have no favorites because we remember
Jesus telling us to love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves.
Can't go wrong with that, can you?
7. Do you folk do anything besides Worship services?
Ha! Do we! Bake sales, town-wide yard sales, Snowflake
Festivals. All the usual things a church does to find the dollars
for the many outreach programs we are helping to support.
Sometimes it seems we are into too many things, but so long as
people are willing to step up to the plate and help out, then it works
out just fine.
8. How about pledging?
Of course, we support our church with our money as well as our time and
talents, but nobody's going to hound you. We simply believe that
God's love for us is adequate inspiration for us to pay back what we
can in His name. This church, like most, has some very well-to-do
members, and also some who are hard-pressed to stay abreast of
everyday expenses. We get on very well together, and you'll find we don't
measure a person's value by the sizes of their income, but by what they
contribute to our collective Spirit.
